5 Great Ways to Find Your Mate this Fall

22 August 2012

Most of my clients live in a metropolitan area with a large single population across all age ranges.  So when I hear that someone can’t meet people, I scratch my head and wonder if they have come out of a coma!  Finding your mate among all these people isn’t impossible. You can meet tons of people in most big cities (DC, New York, LA, Miami, Boston, San Francisco, Dallas, and Chicago), although not everyone is marriage-minded!

Here are the top ways that I see my clients and friends meeting serious, marriage-minded people for dating and an eventual long-term relationship that needs to be a part of your fall dating plan.

1.     Online Dating.
Many people think it is passé; however, recently I was sitting at my table at a wedding where the couple met online, as well as at least 2 couples at my table. In the US, it is estimated that 1 out of 5 marriages has come from online dating. Among my own clients, two-thirds have met their spouses online. This method definitely has to be part of your dating plan!

2.     Ask a friend to set you up!
Who knows you better than your friends and loved ones?  Most everyone knows a single person that they would love to set up.  Women especially love to play matchmaker.  This is a top way that people meet people.  So don’t be shy and ask away!

3.     Go regularly to your house of worship!
If you have a faith, then it is best to meet a partner who shares that faith.  Your community would be only too happy to support having a couple find their mates at their place of worship.

4.     Join a Group!
With Meetup.com, Facebook Groups, and tons of singles event groups in your area, you can keep yourself busy every night of the week if you’d like. However, I don’t recommend spreading yourself too thin.   Pick a half dozen groups to go to regularly so people can get to know you.  I have a Meetup group for marriage-minded singles in DC!   Hope you check us out.

5.     Get involved in a cause.
Nothing brings people together like a rallying cry for a cause you feel strongly for.  Find a cause that you can be passionate about, such as being green or helping animals in need. Also, you may want to help children who need a good role model and some assistance in life, such as Big Brother or Big Sister.  Here you are finding other giving people.  I recommend you look for single volunteer groups.

There you have it, 5 great ways to meet people, and possibly find your mate, this fall.  If you are still at a loss for where to meet people, then you may want to seek the assistance of a dating and relationship coach to help you develop your personalized dating plan for where you need to be putting your energies.  A coach can also give you some tips on how to connect better with people you are meeting, which can lead you to a lasting relationship.
