My dating advice for women\u00a0is: Men are not mind-readers.\u00a0\u00a0 It\u2019s up to us to tell them what we like and what really makes us happy.\u00a0 They appreciate the heads up!\u00a0 I leave hints of what I like as a gift.\u00a0 My husband likes the suggestions.\u00a0 The easier you make it for them, the better.\u00a0 He did buy me 3 roses- not a whole bunch.\u00a0 I appreciate the thought.\u00a0 We are watching out pennies this year.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Then there is the card.\u00a0 We have a ritual of buying each other cards.\u00a0 I usually give him a serious, mushy card and a cute, funny card.\u00a0 I also get him a card from the cat and now from our son.\u00a0 That\u2019s 4 in total.\u00a0 I should buy stock in Hallmark!\u00a0 I got 2 cards from him- one from him and one from the cat!\u00a0\u00a0 Should I be disappointed?\u00a0<\/p>\n
No, I am grateful for what I did get and I made a fuss about what I did get.\u00a0 You see people want to be appreciated for their efforts.\u00a0 If you do, they are more likely to repeat the behavior in the future.\u00a0 The key is to bring the subject up a couple of weeks ahead of the holiday to give him a heads up.\u00a0
\nYou may say something like, \u201cI got you a couple of card for Valentine\u2019s Day already- I can\u2019t wait to see which ones you got for me!\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
So let\u2019s see:\u00a0 there\u2019s a card, a gift, flowers \u2013 what else?\u00a0 Oh yes, chocolate!\u00a0 I told him no chocolate because I\u2019m on a diet.\u00a0\u00a0 Then there is the actual date- usually dinner and something else.\u00a0 We went to a restaurant and a movie.\u00a0 That is a big night for us since we have a 8 month old baby at home.\u00a0 So don\u2019t use us as the standard!\u00a0 Let\u2019s take my friend David who is in a serious relationship as an example.\u00a0 He took his date to a classy dinner and a jazz club.\u00a0\u00a0 I understand it went very well!\u00a0<\/p>\n
