When you meet someone you really like and you seem to click, would you drop your plans with your friends or others to spend the time with that new special person?\u00a0\u00a0 My marriage minded advice is to NOT break your plans and to keep your prior commitments.<\/p>\n
Especially if you are in the beginning months of a new relationship.\u00a0 I recommend you keep your plans with\u00a0 your friends.\u00a0 The right person will appreciate you keeping your commitments to your friends and family.\u00a0 This is what happened with Alan and me.\u00a0 I had made plans to go to a singles weekend with my girlfriend.\u00a0 Alan had planned his summer vacation to a trip to Canada.\u00a0 He wanted me to go with him.\u00a0 First of all, the timing would not have worked for me.\u00a0 And second, I had made a commitment to my girlfriend to go to this weekend with her and I wouldn\u2019t want to disappoint her.<\/p>\n
Alan and I were now dating for two months and not yet officially dating each other exclusively.\u00a0 What Alan and I agreed was that we would go \u2013 no strings attached – on our respective trips.\u00a0 When we came back, if we both felt the same way, we would begin dating exclusively.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 However, we were both free to explore during our time apart.<\/p>\n
So I went on the weekend to the beach and had a good time- but there was no one of interest there.\u00a0 My girlfriend and I had a fun weekend of sightseeing, shopping, dancing and hanging out at the beach.<\/p>\n
Alan had a good trip as well with a nice group of people.\u00a0 When he returned, he called me.\u00a0 He had a very special gift of unique jewelry from Canada.\u00a0 I knew he had thought of me.\u00a0 Sometime a little distance can put perspective on a relationship. We both had no doubt we would be dating each other exclusively like we agreed.\u00a0 However, being the marriage minded person that I was, I clearly specified my terms to this exclusivity.<\/p>\n
