After turning forty, I felt that the motivated to marry guys who wanted families were only looking at 30 year olds.\u00a0 My time was running out.\u00a0 I had a decision to make \u2013 and I had to make a big shift in how I was putting myself out there to date.\u00a0 I also decided to consider dating outside the DC area \u2013 if the right guy presented himself. Remember, I owned and operated a woman\u2019s clothing boutique so that required I consider closing my store!<\/p>\n

Also, I had to make changes in my business to support my relationship goals.\u00a0 I hired a manager and started to delegate more so I had more free time to get out, attend singles events and activities that I enjoyed and meet people.\u00a0 The tradeoff was that I took home less pay from the business.\u00a0 [For those entrepreneurs check out my \u201cHow to Date Like an Entrepreneur\u201d chapter in my book (http:\/\/www.GetItRightThisTime.com<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Eventually I came to the realization that finding a life partner was more important that having a child.\u00a0 I wanted the right relationship.\u00a0 I had to relax, let go of the time pressure and just enjoy my life \u2013 not care about the outcome!\u00a0\u00a0 What I found out was I was attracting men to me.\u00a0\u00a0 The bicycle group I belonged to had a long weekend planned to Cape May, NJ.\u00a0 On that trip I met 3 guys that seemed interested in me.\u00a0 One of them was my husband although he really wasn\u2019t on my radar yet.<\/p>\n

During that weekend, Alan was at my dinner table and made an effort to ride along side me during the day bike ride.\u00a0 Saturday night I tried to get a group together to go to the Wildwood Amusement park at the next town.\u00a0 I only was able to get Alan and my best friend to say they would go with me.\u00a0 When my friend saw it was going to be the 3 of us, she backed out.\u00a0 So Alan and I went to the amusement part just the two of us.\u00a0 She kept insisting it was a date.\u00a0 I kept saying it wasn\u2019t a date!<\/p>\n

We both love amusement parks and especially roller coasters!\u00a0\u00a0 We walked along the boardwalk and I found out we had similar family backgrounds (we are both from the New York City area) \u2013 although he was raised in a more Orthodox Jewish home, he was practicing as a conservative.\u00a0 We had many similar values in common.<\/p>\n

Alan surprised me and offer to treat me to a palm reading.\u00a0 So we both had our palms read.\u00a0 I went into the curtained area with an older woman dressed as a gypsy that could be out of central casting!\u00a0 She looked at my palm, \u201cYou have been unlucky at love\u201d \u201cSure, you can say that!\u201d I replied.\u00a0 She continued, \u201cYour heart and your head haven\u2019t been aligned\u201d.\u00a0 She had a point there.\u00a0 Now what?\u00a0 That did stick with me and that\u2019s why I named my coaching business Heartmind Connection!<\/p>\n

Alan decided to turn in at about 11 pm when we returned to the hotel.\u00a0 I saw my friends in the bar (I\u2019m a late night owl) and they were heading down the street.\u00a0 So I joined them!\u00a0 There was another guy in the group that seemed cute and we walked together.<\/p>\n

The next day, another guy who seemed interested in me wanted to get a tennis doubles group together.\u00a0 My girlfriend is a good tennis player and we needed a fourth.\u00a0 Alan stepped up and offered to play tennis.\u00a0 Remember, I wasn\u2019t really considering Alan as serious dating material yet.\u00a0\u00a0 He was just a nice guy to hang out with.<\/p>\n

Last, Alan made sure he was on my boat back to Delaware.\u00a0 We hung out some more on the boat.\u00a0 We even have a picture of us together.<\/p>\n

The night at the amusement park and the rest of the weekend did set the stage for Alan and I to start dating when we returned back from Cape May New Jersey.\u00a0\u00a0 I started to take notice of his steady interest in me.<\/p>\n
