Dating in a Tough Economy – low cost alternatives

Has the recession crimped your dating budget?  Living expenses has gone up and perhaps your income has stayed static or even declined.  Maybe you’ve lost your job or the big contract or your business is down.  How does a guy desiring a serious love relationship manage to date?

Dating can be very costly for men, especially in the early states while he is meeting new women to see if one of them is someone with which to pursue a serious relationship.  Most women expect men to pay –especially in the beginning.  Here is my dating advice about dates that would be fun and yet work within your budget… 

I remember the first dates my husband took me to be a free concert at a town center with a folk artist he liked.  He came with a picnic basket and a blanket.   This was a relatively low cost date.  Another date we went on was a free Shakespeare play in the park.  We were dating in the summer so there were many free outdoor activities.

Other low cost dates in the summer include boating, hiking, tennis (public court), visiting a beautiful park or gardens, free outdoor movies, outdoor art shows, roller-blading, kite flying, going to a lake or a beach and having bar-b-q at a park.  Can you think of other low cost dates for the summer?  

What about low cost dates during the winter time?  Ice skating, free museums (I live in DC where the museums are free), going to a matinee movie on the weekends, hiking, sledding, cross-country skiing, going to the botanical gardens, community theatre, church concerts, plays and lectures at a local university, and making a romantic dinner at home.  

My dating advice is that you don’t have to spend a fortune to date.  You just need to be creative.  The goal is to spend time together to get to know one another.   What are some of your low cost dating ideas?
